Wallowa County, Oregon offers something for everyone. At nearby Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, you can enjoy Hat Point which overlooks the deepest gorge in North America. The Wallowa Lake Tramway is only a short walk away, and from the top of 8,256-foot Mt. Howard you can enjoy the spectacular view of several 10,000-foot peaks of the Eagle Cap Wilderness and the Wallowa Valley below, including the most perfectly formed glacial lake in the world - Wallowa Lake. Events During the Winter
The Wallowa Valley hosts two major events in the Winter both occurring in January.
The first event is the Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog Race. The start and finish of this race is at our local ski area (Ferguson Ridge). The start of the race is a must see and while you are at the start ski our little ski hill. Other activities around this event include the sled team check in Joseph, a variety of race cental events and the musher awards banquet and dance. For more information see www.eaglecapextreme.com.
The second event is the Wallowa Valley Winterfest. This event includes activities such as snow sculptures, tube races, a snow machine poker run and to close out the Winterfest there is a crab feedl. For more information see www.snowmobilewallowacounty.com.
