The following hikes are personnel
favorites of Patti and Doug managers of Wallowa Lake Resort. We
provide free maps at the office for each of these hikes. We also
provide snow shoes for when there is snow on our Wallowa Mountain trails. Be aware that hiking can be dangerous so dress for bad weather and be sure to take first aid supplies. Never hike alone. We also recommend the book Hiking the Eagle Cap by Fred Barstad. Each hike is classified in terms of difficulty, has the estimated round-trip mileage and elevation gain. |

East Moraine
Trail
Difficulty : Moderate Elevation Gain: 600' Miles: 3 |
This trail starts from a parking area at a turnout along Wallowa Lake. It follows a logging road and works it way to the top of the moraine. It is the easiest and quickest way to reach the top of the east moraine. The views are tremendous up the west fork of the Wallowa, Wallowa Lake, Chief Joseph Mountain, and in the distance the Sawtooth mountains of Idaho. You return the same way back to your car. |

Chief Joseph Marina Trail
Difficulty : Difficult Elevation Gain: 2000' (or so) Miles: 3 |
This trail starts behind the cleaning
station at the Marina and works its way up through the trees to the base of
Chief Joseph mountain. This trail is used to reach the based of Joseph
Mountain. It is a very steep but has a great view. There is no
water along the trail so it can be hot and dry in the summer.
This hike can be difficult with snow shoes in the winter. If the snow is soft and deep look for different hiking options. |
